In alignment with efforts of the international community in the activist-led campaign against gender-based violence, PUNCH Media Foundation is hosting another PUNCH Webinar Series on Thursday, 7 December 2023, at 11 am. The webinar is open to policymakers, the media, civil society organisations, legal professionals, human rights activists, captains of industries, survivors of gender-based violence, and the general public.
The event, strategically scheduled to take place during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence the world over, aims to raise awareness and understanding of gender-based violence in Nigeria, empower survivors/victims, influence positive media reporting, enhance legal knowledge and access to justice, engender the formulation and implementation of gender-sensitive policies, challenge gender discriminatory norms, and galvanise efforts to eliminate gender-based violence in Nigeria.
The event promises a line-up of well-rounded and carefully selected speakers who will share insights from their engagements around gender issues over the years, ensuring that participants get value for their time. They include the Founder/Lead Consultant of Strictly Speaking Academy, Bimbo Oloyede; the Founder of Follow The Money and CEO of Connected Development (CODE), Hamzat B. Lawal; and the Founding Director of Women Advocates Research and Documentation Center, AbiolaAkiyode-Afolabi.
Recognising the urgency of addressing gender-based violence and the need to have every critical stakeholder be part of the conversation during or after the event, PUNCH Media Foundation, in collaboration with PUNCH Newspapers, will stream the event live on the Facebook page of PUNCH Newspapers.
Other speakers at the webinar are the award-winning Nigerian actress, Kate Henshaw, the Nigerian Police Superintendent and Public Relations Officer of Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, and a media personality and influencer, Jamila Lawal. Moderating the event is the Head of Programmes at PUNCH Videos, Melony Ishola. As a seasoned journalist and gender activist, she brings her experiences and expertise to bear as she steers and ensures a seamless flow of the conversation around the thematic area.
PUNCH Media Foundation is the development arm of PUNCH Nigeria Limited, publishers of the PUNCH titles. It was established in 2019 to drive sustainable change in Nigeria, leveraging the power of the media, technology, and advocacy as viable tools.
